Christmas Parties: Festive Fun or HR Horror!

Now that we’re into December, most of us will have that one fixed date on our calander- The Work Christmas Party! It’s meant to be a way to say thanks for a great year and boost morale but sometimes Yuletide celebrations can be a night to remember for all the wrong reasons. We’ve all got one of those stories right?

However, with proper planning and good communication, we can ensure that our Christmas party is a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone involved. Planning and organising a Christmas party can be a fun and exciting task, but it's important to keep in mind that everyones idea of the perfect party might be different. To ensure that the party is inclusive and enjoyable for all, here are some tips for a successful and memorable Work Christmas party:

The things you want:

To have fun, oh yes we do! It is a party after all!

To offer celebratory drinks, Mocktails won’t disappoint for those that prefer.

To enjoy a warm welcome, especially when ‘it’s cold outside’- Picking the right venue can be crucial to the success of your party.

To remember you’re representing the company. Thats not to say you cant unwind, Just don’t do anything you’ll regret come January.

To make sure it safe, It would be strange if we didn’t say that, we are a H&S company after all!

The things you want to avoid:

Inappropriate Jokes or Comments- These people are your coworkers.

Tis the season to be jolly, not squiffy!

Excluding anyone, even old Ebenezer!

Forgetting Professionalism

Attendance at Christmas Parties isn’t compulsory, think about your timing to try and make it accessible for everyone. Limit open bars and ask team leaders to keep an eye out, so any social upsets can be nipped in the bud before they become offensive.

No-one wants to be a Grinch, we all want our teams to really enjoy the ‘Most Wonderful Time of the Year’. So remember, proper planning and good communication can go a long way to spread Christmas cheer to one and all.
